Iowa State University, founded in 1858, is a public, land-grant university and a Tier One Research University. Iowa State is located in Ames, IA. We offer 10 Colleges, 100 majors and have a robust academic population of over 30,000 students. Our alumni association is made up of over 270,000 former students and they can be found in 150+ countries. Students obtain a great academic start in learning communities and are involved in 800-plus student organizations, undergrad research, internships and study abroad. They learn from world-class scholars who are tackling some of the world's biggest challenges -- feeding the hungry, finding alternative fuels and advancing manufacturing…to name a few. Iowa State’s mascot is the Cyclone and we are part of the NCAA Division 1 Big 12 Conference. Iowa State University is home to six on campus museums, the world famous Reiman Gardens and the only college campus to house a US Department of Energy site. We have been named as one of the top college towns in the US. Additionally, Iowa State University established the first public veterinary college in the nation in 1879 and today, is ranked among the best in the US. Our current students enjoy an active lifestyle on our 2000+ acre campus, over 20 dining options to choose from and 22 residence halls to live in.
